Change through Revelation

Filed under: Overcoming Life Obstacles, Change, Revelation — by Dean at 5:41 pm on Friday, January 18, 2008

Changing is the most difficult thing in the world. Changing my attitude and my behavior. Changing how I see and perceive things. Changing the filter through which I see things and that defines my world view and how I live my life. Changing these things is one of the hardest things you will ever do.

The filter or prism that we look through defines how we see life and can change how we see God. If you were raised to believe that God is angry with you, that is how you will view God and it will affect your actions. If you were raised in an abusive home, that will affect how you see - and possibly treat your own family. The Bible gives us an amazing way to change how we see things. It doesn’t really matter how we see things because many times our prism is not reality. It’s our perception. We see certain things and they become our reality. But when I change the way I see things, I can discover God’s reality - discover the truth and discover how God sees. To start out this new year, we are going to shift the prism we look through and stop living in an environment that never allows us to tap in to what God has for us.

Bringing our First Fruits in the New Year

Filed under: Offerings to God — by Dean at 4:26 pm on Friday, January 18, 2008

It’s great to start the new year off the right way, with the favor of God. One way to do that is by bringing our first fruits to God and become generous, giving people. God is much more reliable than we are. When we can rely on God in everything, we can mix the abilities and talents He gave us with His power and vision and make the best out of everything in our lives. That is what tithing is. It’s aligning ourselves with God and putting God first. We want people to have great lives and that is how we do it - aligning our hearts with God, putting God first, and being generous in all things because we trust that God will provide.

God’s Redemptive Nature

Filed under: Nature of God, Redemption — by Dean at 5:23 am on Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Acts 18: I love the New Year - the thought of another chance - the thought of what’s possible. There is so much hope in the air this time of year. God loves to give us another chance. The whole nature of God is redemptive. He wants to wash away the past, get our feet on high ground and get us looking forward. God is all about forward. Although some things we have done in our past effect us and leave scars. God wants us to learn from those things and move on - not be defeated by it or let it hold you back. He wants us to allow the lessons of our past to help us make great decisions for our future.

The Gift of Jesus - God’s Redemptive Plan

Filed under: Nature of Jesus, Nature of God — by Dean at 6:40 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2008

Isaiah 9 - For unto us a child is born… This prophecy foretells the birth of Christ.

God’s redemptive plan for earth was to come to earth Himself- as a child - and become relatable. God wanted to connect to the world. “A Son will be given…” The child was the entry point. Come into the kingdom like a child. Re-learn and re-think everything. By coming as a child, God introduced Himself to us in such a way that we could identify with Him. He became real, tangible and touchable. He came and did things people needed Him to do - provide healing, comfort, compassion, encouragement and hope. He did everything He could to ensure that people understood Him.

The Christmas Story Demonstrates the Nature of God

Filed under: Nature of God — by Dean at 6:22 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2008

Matthew 1:18

The Kingdom of God is something we can bring to the here and now. We can demonstrate it in this world by knowing God’s character and acting out our desire to be like Christ.

The Christmas story gives a clear demonstration of the nature and character of God. Joseph in this story was in a dilemma - the dilemma was between the law and his heart. He was struggling with himself between his compassion for Mary and the dictates of the law he had grown up following. The law commanded commanded strict punishment for women who cheated on their husbands or were pregnant out of wedlock. However, the angel Gabriel had told Joseph to go ahead with his wedding and to name his son Jesus. (Emanuel - God with us).
